Until date, no Pakistani woman has ever come forward to tell her story of rape to the whole world. Despite being criticized a lot by the President Pervez Musharraf for her daring act, rape victim Mukhtaran Mai is determined to take everything on her stride and face the harsh music of the conservatives.

Mai did something, which was unthinkable from a sexually exploited victim. Leaving behind the unfortunate incident of her life, she appears in a moving documentary titled ‘SHAME’ where the dare-devil woman bares all about her rape episode- how the villagers from her place raped her to avenge her brothers fault.

The documentary premiered in the Toronto Film Festival last week consisted mainly of all the interviews and TV footage and clearly states the reaction of her father and brother who took a negative approach to the whole issue.

Nevertheless, this didn’t deter Mukhtaran from moving ahead in life. She is receiving great support from the International Community and is now fighting for protection of many other women like her.

While answering to a question put forward by Reuters during the Toronto Film Fest, all she said was:

My strength came from God. Before, I did not even know what was around the corner from my house, and now I am here. I am dealing with bigger issues, she said. The entire world is supporting me.

Directed by Mohammed Naqvi the movie is scheduled to be released next year. We all are hopeful that after seeing this real life incident, people from all across the world will do more for the rape victims, so that no one dares to treat them as a social outcaste and let them be a part of the society.
